Coming To A New Home

Gerbils are often nervous and frightened when they move to a new home. They need to become ajusted to thier new habitaT.
The following instructions will be used to establish trust and help you teach the gerbil to eat from your hand. Follow these instructions and you'll have a lasting relationship with your gerbil.
1.reach your hand into the cage and keep it still so your gerbil will pick up your sent
2.offer a small treat in your thum and forefinger hold it tightly so he doesn't steal it.
3.pet your gerbil on it's side witgh your free hand while it is eating.
Eventualy your gerbil will trust you enough to let you pick it up.
remember be consistant!
Coming When Called
This is a very basic trick that will begin to teach your gerbil to learn all kinds of things, but you need to have taught them to trust you first . Plus it's very useful to be able to call your gerbil in case he gets out of his/her cage and hides.
You need to reward your Gerbil for doing tricks by giving him/her a treat. I use sesame seeds and mini marshmallows because each piece is so small you can give your gerbil lots before he/she gets full. First you must teach your gerbil to take food from your fingers. Then you can start saying his/her name and the word "treat" before giving him/her the food. Your gerbil will learn his/her name faster if you always say it when you greet and pet him/her.
Next, instead of handing your gerbil the treat, hold it a few inches away so he has to come get it. First say his/her name and "come get treat". Gradually make him/her come farther to get the treat until he/she will run across the floor, couch, table, or bed to get his/her treat.
Your gerbil now knows his/her first trick! Practice it often so he/she learns it well.

Teaching your gerbil to beg.
You can teach your Gerbil to Beg by holding a treat in the air. They will eventually stand up when you hold your hand. To teach them to come when you call.

Wrestling

Gerbils play together by wrestling and chewing on each other just like puppies. If you pretend your hand is another gerbil, your gerbil can wrestle with you too. When he/she's feeling really playful, he/she might flip over on his back so you can tickle his/her tummy!
P.S. You Can Train Them To Come When Called And Beg. Other than that you can train them other tricks, but I refuse to post these tricks on my web page! I trained my gerbils with positive renforcement and It took me about a month
